How to play Solitaire
Klondike Solitaire uses a standard 52-card deck dealt into seven tableau piles. The goal is to move every card onto the four foundation piles, ordered by suit from Ace to King.
Build the foundations
Move cards to the four foundation piles in order - Ace, 2, 3 and so on up to King - one suit per pile. An Ace always starts a foundation.
Build the tableau down
Stack cards on the tableau in descending order while alternating red and black suits. For example, a red 6 can be placed on a black 7.
Use the stock and waste
When you run out of moves, draw a card from the stock pile into the waste. If the stock runs out, you can recycle the waste back into the stock.
Solitaire rules in a nutshell
- Foundations build up by suit from Ace to King.
- Tableau piles build down in alternating red and black colors.
- Only a King (or a King-led run) can be placed on an empty tableau pile.
- You can move a run of face-up cards between tableau piles.
- Draw from the stock into the waste, and recycle the waste when the stock is empty.
Tips to win at Solitaire
Uncover face-down cards first - every new face-up card gives you more options.
Move cards to the foundations early, but not if they block a run you need.
Always reveal the tableau before using the stock.
Move Kings to empty tableau spaces so you can unlock the piles beneath them.
